From Pastor Steve...

He is the ONE – But Which One is That?!

Yes, Jesus really is the ONE!

But what that means entirely depends on one’s perspective:

  • For the Crowds He was the ONE to force to be King until He insisted He was the Bread of Life they had to eat – and so they walked away.
  • For Judas He was the ONE to betray for 30 pieces of silver- the price of a slave- until his own regret caused him to refund the money and pay with his own life.
  • For the Sanhedrin He was the ONE who had to be gotten rid of or else the Romans might get rid of them for poor management of their own people.
  • For the cheering Jerusalem crowd, He was the ONE – the Son of David until His triumphal ride turned towards the Temple rather than the Palace. He cleaned His Father’s House rather than “cleaning house” with Rome.
  • For Peter, He was the ONE that he would go to death itself for until a servant girl scared Peter to death and he swore he never knew Him.
  • For Pilate, He was the ONE who would be sacrificed on the altar of Pilate’s political aspirations and fears. A stain would remain on his conscience no matter how hard he would scrub his hands.
  • For the Soldiers, He was the ONE they could beat taking out some of their pent-up frustrations against this rebellious people where they had been forced to live as “peacekeepers”. What a treat it was to humiliate the King of the Jews- until one Centurion saw that He really was the ONE- the Son of God!
  • For the Thieves, He was the ONE who would receive more public humiliation than they did. They could even join in giving mockery instead of just being on the receiving end – Until one of them saw He really was the ONE- the Lord of Paradise!

But He was not the ONE they perceived Him to be:
  • He was the One who was dying for us All
  • He was the ONE who prayed Father forgive them for they know not what they do
  • He was the ONE who died for every Criminal and for one criminal who died a forgiven man
  • He was the one who cried IT IS FINISHED! And gave His Spirit back into the Father’s hand
  • He is the ONE and only sacrifice for Sin. He is the ONE for me—is He the ONE for you??
